چکیده

We discuss the use of homogenization techniques to derive approximate models with simple geometry for physical models of grids and trusses which have a complex geometry that gives rise to computational diiculties. Our presentation is in the context of inverse or parameter estimation problems for composite material structures with unknown characteristics such as stiiness and internal damping. We present the necessary theoretical foundations for this approach and discuss comparison of modal properties of the resulting homogenization model for a two-dimensional grid structure with modal properties observed in experiments with this grid.

Parameter Estimation Versus Homogenization Techniques in Time-Domain Characterization of Composite Dielectrics

We compare an inverse problem approach to parameter estimation with homogenization techniques for characterizing the electrical response of composite dielectric materials in the time domain. We first consider an homogenization method, based on the periodic unfolding method, to identify the dielectric response of a complex material with heterogeneous micro-structures which are described by spati...

Introduction to the numerical homogenization by means of the Meshless Finite Difference Method with the Higher Order Approximation

Paper focuses on application of the Meshless Finite Difference Method (MFDM) solution approach and its selected extensions to the numerical homogenization of the heterogeneous material. The most commonly used method of computer modeling for the multiscale problem (at both the macro and micro (RVE) levels) is the Finite Element Method (FEM). However, this fact does not mean that one should not s...

Can Wavelet Denoising Improve Motor Unit Potential Template Estimation?

Background: Electromyographic (EMG) signals obtained from a contracted muscle contain valuable information on its activity and health status. Much of this information lies in motor unit potentials (MUPs) of its motor units (MUs), collected during the muscle contraction. Hence, accurate estimation of a MUP template for each MU is crucial. Objective: To investigate the possibility of improv...

Modeling Bamboo as a Functionally Graded Material

Natural fibers are promising for engineering applications due to their low cost. They are abundantly available in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, and they can be employed as construction materials. Among natural fibers, bamboo has been widely used for housing construction around the world. Bamboo is an optimized composite material which exploits the concept of Functionally Graded...
